In the spring of 2007, Fantastic Fest, along with AMD/DELL and ME-TV, issued a challenge – make a trailer for a sequel that doesn’t exist yet and that really never should. 60 filmmakers from around the world answered that call and chose their movie when they registered to as a team on UnnecessarySequels.com. One month later, only 40 teams had managed to finish their trailer.
Every single trailer that was submitted had something beautiful and hilarious in it, but after two nights of screening before sold out audiences and a panel of judges at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown in Austin, Texas, 15 of the trailers were chosen as the absolute best of the best. The trailers on this page run the gamut from the sublime to the surreal and back to the overly and horrendously wrong, but each and every one of them is crazy awesome.
Schindler’s Lists won the judges’ hearts as the absolute best, and the team at Press Pass Productions went home with $1,000 cash and a brand new supercharged AMD-powered Dell PC.
Son or Daughter? Of Glen or Glenda? came in a close second place and the people from Black Magic Rollercoaster left with $750.
The Audience Award and winner of the remaining $250 in prize money provided by AMD/Dell was Mascot Wedding’s hilarious buddy comedy, Mement2, a sequel to Memento that finally imagines what would happen if Leonard got a wacky new roommate.
